What is it?
If you decide to take one step to move closer to independence and competitive employment, my advice would be to choose to compete a discovery. This is a process you can complete yourself without help but I believe it is more powerful with help and guidance. The discovery process is an inclusive way of gathering information about an person with additional needs to build a profile about themselves and the future they wish to build.
Discovery looks at the strengths, needs, and ambitions of a young person with a disability We want to know who the person is and to get this information we have a series of questions that help us to consider all of the dimensions of their personality. At the end of this process we will all have a clear picture of who the young persons is and what they really value. We will have developed a profile, and as simple as it sounds get to know them and who they are.
Discovery is the foundation that provides subsequent guidance for the employment process. The discover-ability process will identify abilities, interests and needs of the young person guiding them towards developing sustainable employment. After completing the Discovery for the young people, you have the option to order a customised report for Employment, which critically includes job development activities.
Discovery is a process that seeks to understand the strengths, criteria for achievement, and potential contributions of an individual to help them find competitive employment. Our goal is to have our young people be empowered to make real choices in employment and in contributing to the community.
How does it work?
Discovery takes place by interviewing the young people and possibly those people who best know them individual This could be, family members, or other relevent people in the individual’s life. This kind of clarity is invaluable, it saves time and used correctly can help plan for a better future. he discovery process takes 2 hours below is an example of the types of questions you can expect in the interview, there are no right or wrong answers simply ideas and values.
