I’ve been travelling recently, traveling or having new experiences opens us up lets us revert to a natural child like state of wonder and awe. We are more open to everything around us. I wonder if in this state we are also more tolerant. Seeing things for the first time, as children we don’t need to question their importance or value.
Can’t be hard to see where I’m going with this. I often wonder about visibility of people with a disability, I want to live in society where the we see people with learning difficulties in productive jobs, with specialised skills that people can appreciate, but fundamentally just accept the differences and repect the talent.
Expectations are, and have been way too low for way too long, I don’t think anyone really knows what their limits are what they are capable of just a bunch of beliefs about ourselves and others we’ve picked up along the way. Guess what we’re just setting the bar way way too low.
It’s important, none of us stops our efforts to move forward In this area and do what we can to demonstrate the competancy of individuals across the ability & disability spectrum.
Everyone deserves the chance to make a contribution to society, everyone has their own unique combination of gifts to offer.
We need to reach a critical mass of examples, in plain site where this ceases to become amazing but actually just the norm.
